"My main thought was that I would have to find a natural way to get on with it."
On December 1st 2015 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which means that I have a degenerative autoimmune disease affecting the nerve endings in my brain and spinal cord.
My first prominent thought (which, I can assure you, was not blasé) was that there’s no point of crying over spilt milk: I’ve always been an ‘everything-happens-for-a-reason’ kind of person and so I will find a natural way to manage my symptoms and get on with it.
I wasn’t able to accept any of the ‘disease modifying’ pharmaceutical drugs I had been offered, so, through extensive research and reading I discovered cannabidiol (also known as CBD). CBD oil has changed my life – easing a lot of the painful and frustrating symptoms of MS.
The more I researched the diversities of the cannabis plant and its medicinal extracts, the more excited I felt. This knowledge is invaluable and has changed my life. Through having MS I have discovered something that I am truly passionate about and have found, in CBD, an industry where I really feel I can be my authentic self and really help others.
In 2016 I started making balms infused with CBD by hand, in small batches, for friends and family. The feedback I was getting was amazing and soon people I didn’t even know started to get in touch to buy some. Since then, we have developed our first range of 4 products, each one made from natural ingredients and all containing CBD.
Ohana has given me the opportunity to embody everything I care about, using nature to help others whilst protecting the earth, into a range of products. We believe that what you put on your skin is as important as what you put into your body and in a time when synthetic chemicals and pollutants are increasingly becoming a part of our everyday lives it’s our mission to help people understand what they put into their bodies and the importance of natural ingredients.
Ohana is your home for natural skincare products, skincare and vegan recipes, interviews with amazing people in the industry and everything natural in between.
