The CBD boom: what's the hype, and why now?

The CBD revolution is well and truly here, and it feels like every day someone new is shouting about the benefits of this natural remedy. I’ve known for a long time how important CBD oil would become within the wellness industry, which is why Ohana’s mission is to educate on this new area of health science. CBD is very much in the spotlight - but why now?

Part of the reason for the sudden tolerance of hemp and CBD oil products could come from the nation’s new, broad-minded approach to taking better care of ourselves, paying attention to what we put in and on our bodies, and being generally more hesitant of what we are told by brands and the media. Our trust has been replaced with a healthy scepticism, and we no longer simply accept what we’re told. Instead, we prefer to look at scientific evidence and trust in nature.

You will no doubt already have noticed the shift towards the importance of better sleep, a healthy digestive system, reducing stress, and more, and the wellness industry is now thought to represent 5.3% of our global economic output - that’s $4.2 trillion, and it’s still growing. CBD-based products could have the ability to address many of the key and “trending” health concerns, and naturally research is waking up to its potential.

I predict that over the next few years there will be more emphasis on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is essentially the system within the body that the compounds in hemp and CBD oil interact with. You may have heard a lot of talk about the microbiome and gut health recently, and the endocannabinoid system is now being seen as similarly important when it comes to things like our immune system, metabolism, blood pressure, pain tolerance, sleeping patterns, anxiety, memory and more.

CBD is often associated with and condemned alongside marijuana simply because they come from the same plant, but I feel positive that we have begun to separate the two. The benefits of CBD products are only just beginning to be discovered, and while the hype is happening now, the potential uses of CBD oil could continue to be discovered for years to come.

With the wellness industry booming and new scientific research being conducted around the endocannabinoid system, the incredible benefits of CBD products have gone from myth to mainstream, and are set to become a major factor in health research in the coming years.
